The Legacy Organizer

A set of questions, and a private place to write the answers.

That is the whole thing. More than twenty short sections that ask what you have, where it is kept, and who should be called. You answer at your own pace and end up with one document your family can actually use.

  • More than twenty sections
  • Your password, not ours
  • Save and come back

What this does not do

It will not make the hard part easier.

When you die, the people who love you are going to grieve, and nothing sold on this website touches that. Grief is not a problem to be fixed and Jim would not insult you by pretending otherwise.

What this does touch is the other thing. The part where your daughter spends a Tuesday morning on hold with an insurance company that will not talk to her because she cannot prove the policy exists. The part where nobody knows if there was a second bank. The part where a decision has to be made about a service and no one is sure what you would have wanted.

That part is entirely fixable, and it is fixable by typing.

What it asks

Five groups. Start wherever you like.

Nobody sits down and completes more than twenty sections in an evening. You do one. The first three you could answer right now without getting up.

  • Group one

    The things you already know

    • Who to call first, and in what order
    • Family, and how to reach each of them
    • Your attorney, accountant, and advisor
    • Where you keep the important paper

Ten minutes. No lookups. Most people start here.

  • Group two

    Money and accounts

    • Banks and credit unions
    • Retirement and investment accounts
    • Life, health, and long term care policies
    • What is owed, and to whom
    • Beneficiaries, and when you last checked them
  • Group three

    Documents

    • Will and trust, and where the originals sit
    • Powers of attorney
    • Healthcare directive
    • Deeds, titles, and registrations
    • Military, marriage, and birth records
  • Group four

Home, property, and the digital side

    • The house, and anything else you own
    • Vehicles, aircraft, boats
    • Bills that keep coming out automatically
    • Email, phone, and the accounts tied to them
    • A business, if you have one
  • Group five

    What you actually want

    • Service, burial or cremation, and who should be told
    • Instructions you would rather not leave to a guess
    • Anything you want said, in your own words

This is the group most families say they wish they had.

  • Save and come back

You will not finish in one sitting and you are not supposed to. Your progress is saved. Close it, come back next week, pick up where you stopped.

How it works

Four steps.

  1. Schedule your 30 minute consultation

After purchasing the Organizer or Complete Bundle, you schedule a complimentary 30 minute consultation. A trained advisor explains how the Organizer works and shares best practices for completing, protecting, and storing it.

  2. Activate your Organizer

Your activation code is included when you purchase the Organizer. The advisor does not provide the activation code. During the consultation, the advisor can explain how to use the code and help you understand how to begin.

  3. Complete it at your own pace

You complete the Organizer one section at a time. You can skip questions, save your progress, and return whenever you are ready.

  4. Create, protect, and share the final document

You create the completed PDF, protect it with a password of your own, and save copies on your computer, in secure cloud storage, and on a thumb drive. You decide who should know where it is stored and how to access it.

After completion

  • BTR is notified.
  • Your assigned advisor is notified.
  • We send you a note about keeping it safe.
  • Your advisor follows up when appropriate.

Privacy

Your answers are yours. Here is exactly what that means.

  • You set the password. Not us, not your advisor, not the software. You choose it and you type it.
  • We never see it. Nobody at Beyond the Runway can look it up, reset it, or be talked into recovering it, because we do not have it.
  • Your answers are not published anywhere. There is no directory, no shared database, no marketing list built from what you wrote.
  • Nothing reaches your advisor unless you send it. You can share a copy with them, and you can stop. Account numbers and anything saying where a key or a password is kept are left out of that copy, you see exactly what it contains before you decide, and we cannot read it any more than we can read the original.
  • What we do keep is the boring part of running a business: that you bought it, that your code was used, and whether you have finished. Nothing from inside the document.

One thing you have to do yourself.

A locked document that nobody can open is the same as no document at all. Tell someone the password. Your spouse, the person named in your will, whoever will be handling this. Write it somewhere they will find it, or say it out loud to them today.

If you forget it, we cannot get you back in. That is not a policy we chose for convenience. It is the only way the first four promises on this page can be true.

After you finish

What happens next.

  • A note from Jim

You get a short message the day you finish. Most people who intend to do this never do. You did.

  • A conversation, if you want one

An advisor can sit down with you for thirty minutes. They do not see what you wrote unless you show them: most people bring a printed copy or send the PDF themselves once they are ready, and you go through it together. The conversation is educational and centred on you rather than on anything being sold. If something comes up that deserves professional attention, the advisor will say so and arrange a separate appointment under their own licensing. You decide whether you want the call at all.

  • A reminder in six months, then every year

Life moves. Accounts close, people change, a new grandchild arrives. You can reopen the Organizer, update it, and produce a fresh copy whenever you want.

The Legacy Organizer is an educational and administrative tool. It is not a will, a trust, or a legal document, and it does not replace one. Beyond the Runway does not give financial, legal, or tax advice, and the thirty minute session is educational and administrative only. No securities, insurance, or annuity products are discussed in it. Talk to your own attorney, accountant, or licensed advisor about your situation.

Start with one section.Ten minutes.

If you would rather ask a question first, call. A person answers.
